About

A quiet button with one job

Captain Kill Switch exists for one moment: when you need a clean slate, now. No Alt-Tab, no Cmd-Q marathon — just one calm, decisive click.

Our story

Built to clear the chaos

We kept finding ourselves juggling a dozen open apps, losing focus, and spending real time closing them one window at a time. We wanted a single, deliberate way to reset and refocus.

So we built Captain Kill Switch — a cross-platform menu-bar app that closes every running application with one click. It asks your apps to quit gracefully first, leaves critical system processes alone, and gets out of the way until you need it again.

It is free, runs 100% on your machine, and needs no account. It sends anonymous usage statistics and crash reports — nothing personal, ever — so we can keep improving it. macOS builds are Developer-ID signed and notarised. That is the whole product — and the whole promise.

Why it's good

One job, done extremely well

Instant, one-click reset

Close every open application in milliseconds, straight from the menu bar. No hunting through windows, no Alt-Tab cycling.

Protects what matters

It closes your apps while leaving critical system processes untouched — and runs entirely on your machine, with no account and only anonymous usage stats.

Truly cross-platform

The same calm, single-button experience on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Learn it once, use it everywhere.

How it works

Three seconds to a clean desktop

STEP 01

Install & forget

Download for your OS and open it once. It tucks itself into the menu bar or system tray automatically.

STEP 02

Hit the button

When you need a fresh start, click the tray icon or press your global hotkey. One action — that is the whole interface.

STEP 03

Clean slate
